Update on greening through HVO

Our transporter Koopman, responsible for more than half of our transports, has been using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as fuel since 2018. This is a synthetic fuel made from biomass, which produces 89% fewer CO2 emissions per km than a litre of regular diesel. Koopman has had a fuelling station for HVO installed on its site in Nijkerk for this purpose, and purchased a number of MAN trucks equipped for HVO. These are used for transporting both cars and components.

Pon’s objective is to be carbon-neutral in 2020. The aim is to achieve 20% of this through reduction and greening. This is why we have formulated the following step-by-step plan, with the litres of HVO achieved for the past three years below.

  • Litres of HVO refuelled in 2018: 213,724 litres (10% of total litres)
  • Litres of HVO refuelled in 2019: 485,588 litres (15% of total litres)
  • Litres of HVO refuelled in 2020: 711,861 litres (22% of total litres)

For 2021, anticipated consumption has been budgeted at 680,323 litres of HVO (22% of total number of litres). The 2021 budget for achieving this will probably turn out lower owing to an anticipated drop in the price of HVO as compared to the normal RRP for diesel. The expectation is that the difference will be 20% less than the €0.30 per litre that is currently being used for budgeting.
