Derby Cycle implementation support
Outsourcing of implementation to Pon Logistics LSC
Since 2018, Derby Cycle has invested a lot of time within the logistical operation as part of the preparation phase of a switch to the new ERP system SAP. Derby Cycle has therefore approached Pon Logistics Managing Director Koen Valk with a request to have the Pon Logistics Solutions Center arrange the implementation. This allowed the logistics operation of Derby Cycle to focus completely on implementing SAP alongside its regular work. And that’s how it happened: Henk Heijnen, Manager Transport at Pon Logistics, arranged the implementation on behalf of the LSC. A logical choice, as he already did the tender.
Approach between the parties
The implementation started with an internal kick-off on September 7, 2018 with Henk Heijnen and the colleagues from Derby Cycle. This was followed by an external kick-off a week later, attended by colleagues from Derby Cycle, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, and JCL Logistics Benelux. An action list was then created containing all the actions required for a successful implementation. Progress was monitored through biweekly conference calls and/or live meetings. The IT test carried out on December 7, 2018 – which involved simulating the entire process in a test environment – showed that everything worked as it should. In other words, it was a success! The last of the actions were started up until Christmas, so the implementation of the new shipper was completed by January 7, 2019.
Win-win situation
All in all, it was a win-win situation for both Derby Cycle – who could focus completely on the SAP implementation – and Pon Logistics (LSC), represented by Henk Heijnen. In addition to the entire tender process, Henk also took on the role of project leader for the implementation. Unfamiliar territory for him, as this was the first time he served a project leader role abroad, with German and English as the main languages.
